Spring Runoff Line

Yesterday, our family went on a day trip to Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island, from the mainland of BC, to attend the celebration of life of a dear friend. Because of the ferry we must take we rarely go the the Island, so I am going to take the liberty of posting shots from yesterday over the next several days. Let’s call it ‘The Vancouver Island Series’.

The ferry takes 2 hours, and over halfway through the voyage we crossed this distinct line in the Salish Sea. The weather warmed suddenly and rapidly this month causing a higher than usual snow melt and runoff. The main ‘drain’ for this is the Fraser River which flows into the Salish Sea. To the right is the silt-laden outflow. To the left is the normal, clear ocean water.
