Dunnottar Castle
It was forecast to be a glorious day (18°C) so Mrs CBL and I decided to visit Stonehaven, a seaside town which is approximately 15 miles south of Aberdeen.
We enjoyed coffees and cake with a view overlooking the bay before walking along the boardwalk to the harbour. Then it was a steep uphill plod to the coastal path that leads along to the castle.
Dunnottar Castle is a ruined medieval castle located on a rocky headland (160 feet above the North Sea) two miles south of Stonehaven. These dramatic and evocative cliff-top ruins were once an impregnable fortress of the Earls Marischal, once one of the most powerful families in Scotland.
