‘Sphingonotus Rubescens’

There are lots of these around the beach here in Fuerteventura, and I found this one sitting on a bench overlooking the sea. My insect identification app says they go by the name of ‘Sphingonotus Rubescens’,

Apparently, they are to be found mainly in the Canaries. There is also a grasshopper called the Fuerteventura Sand Grasshopper, though I'm not entirely clear if it's the same thing by a different name or not!

In any event it's local and it's tiny, and, close up, both very beautiful and rather fearsome!

And the ‘wheet wheet’ sound (stridulation) they make at night reminds me that I'm back in a warm climate!
