Erigeron

Not heard of these flowers before. They shone out of the gloom this evening while we were out on our walk.

It’s been really cold today for the end of May, 12c with an even brisker northerly whipping around the trees and houses accompanied by a lowering grey cloud. The west appears to be having it much better. The forecast is a little better for tomorrow.

Thank you for all your comments, stars and favourites for yesterday’s surfeit of railway images. I’m delighted you liked them.

Today, saw the start of Phase 1 of our house makeover. Our gas boiler was, to our knowledge, at least 30 years old. We approached every winter with trepidation wondering whether it would see us through to spring.

We seriously considered not having a gas boiler this time, but our research showed that for optimum benefits our house is not suitable for air source heating. At least the new boiler is more efficient than the old and as it’s a combi, there’s no hot water tank.

The engineers have been excellent. By the end of the day we have a working system. Tomorrow is all about the various controls.

Phase 2 of the makeover involves replacing the old windows which we hope will further help energy conservation. They’re being done by a chap that I taught as a 13year old 46 years ago. He’s done alright for himself, couldn’t have been more helpful and still found it hard to call me by my Christian name!

Future phases include remodelling the garden, renovating the front of the house and utility room. It’s good to get stuff moving.
