From feeling green...

After two days of being ill and sore and pathetic, I'm back in Edinburgh today feeling vaguely better. But the one thing I can't stop noticing in this part of the city is that the light, lukewarm summer rain seems to make everything greener. The trees in the Meadows today are popping with forest greens they don't take on in the sun, the cherry blossoms a more sombre, vintage pink than the vibrant hues of last week. There are few people in the park today: a playful dog and his owner, a few bird calls and the smell of botanic humidity make the scene complete.

While laziness would place this as just another dull day in Edinburgh, taking a minute on a park bench it feels anything but. This city is quietly sad today. It's not moody, it's not angry, it's not that cold and distant emotionless way of Glasgow - it's just melancholic, and it doesn't know why. It has no reason to be sad, or quiet, but it is.

I'm obviously projecting.
