My missing genes

My great-grandmother conceived my grandfather out of wedlock by an unidentified man who died in the Great War. Family lore has it that this mystery great grandfather is either the top or the second name on the Monuments aux Morts. Neither name can be easily read off the blip because the village has not cleaned the Monument, but on my visit today I saw that the top name's given name is the same as my grandfather's middle name (Hypolite). Aha ! But on the other hand, the second name rings a bell with the octogenarian members of my family. Aha !

We're not about to find out, are we....?
