Brackish Water-crowfoot

I didn't get much sleep after 2 a.m., so was already tired when we set off for Cuckmere at 5.30 a.m. Despite the early start the journey was still slow in places, and we arrived at our grazing marsh survey site about 9.30 a.m.

It was a full day of surveying grassland and ditches, on a site that was partially flooded following the thunder storms earlier in the week. This made some of the ditch crossings very interesting indeed, and occasionally we had to divert from our planned route. Nevertheless, it was a very interesting area, with large sweeps of Brackish Water-crowfoot flowering in some of the former saltmarsh pools.

It was after six when we finished surveying and headed to our 'apartment' which was a single room (plus en-suite) with very basic cooking facilities. Somehow, Pete managed to make a delicious meal of pasta with Arrabbiata sauce. We had a very early night - much needed after a long and tiring day!
