Lifeboat Drill

Here we all are, merrily participating in the bi-monthly lifeboat drill aboard Silversea Cloud!

Actually, too much wind forced the ship to change its itinerary last night.  We were supposed to visit the Breton town of Roscoff after we left Douarnenet yesterday, but instead the captain poured on the steam and we docked this morning in the port of Cherbourg.  (We would not have been able to disembark via Zodiacs at Roscoff, as we would have been at anchor, and the swells and currents would have been too dangerous.)

It's been very chilly and gray today, but it didn't really matter as we just strolled off the ship and went to the Cite de la Mer -- an interesting maritime museum right next to where we are docked.  We saw an impressive exhibit on the Titanic, which stopped to pick up passengers here shortly before its disastrous encounter with an iceberg, and also enjoyed an exhibit on the world's oceans today, and saw lots of odd submarines and submersibles which have been used to explore the ocean floor.
