living in a glass house

Blue

I caught a blue boy for the photo challenge today, in a sea of chickens.

We took a farm walk with some Home ed families. It was brilliant! The children got to stroke cows, calves, lambs and baby chicks, and a tiny dwarf bunny. Chickpea was very impressed by the length of the cow's tongue as it tried to eat my coat. She kept giggling and saying, "that's funny, isn't it?" Monkey loved the chickens. This barn had about a thousand chickens in it but he felt no fear as he ambled among them and kept running back after I tried to redirect him. He actually loved it all, I think. He was very gentle with the chicks and the bunny and chased after all the lambs (who were quite friendly and kept coming up to the children, sniffing and nibbling gently). I found the hen barn the most interesting. They have a conveyor belt egg collecting system and the feeding and watering is all very high tech. Chickpea sat in the tractors and pretended to drive them. Plus, we went home with some fresh eggs, bonus! It was a lovely day, even if it was raining from the minute we left the house until we got home.
