Nonington Open Gardens

Nonington once had a colliery. Now it is off the beaten track with lots of old houses. The large Elizabethan house is home to a Bruderhof community who provided a pony and trip to carry folks to the farthest point. Alton Court was a group of Tudor and older houses with a wonderful Tudor garden with flourishing box hedges and bee boles. There was a fish canal, an Elizabethan viewing mound and much else besides. The estate includes an Anglo Saxon grave site. We visited 9 of the 10 gardens and were so pleased it was a warm sunny day after seeming weeks of a chill North wind. This picture was taken in the garden of a 13th (!) century house and is of a watering can waterfall.
