Black-tailed Skimmer

Today's outing took me to Frensham Little Pond for lunch and a walk round the pond and up onto the common. 

The highlight of my day was spotting a pair of black-tailed skimmers mating. Unfortunately (for me) the coupling was made almost out of sight on the wall of the medieval dam (extra). The female then split off to skim the water, dipping her tail in to lay her eggs, while her mate protected her from above.
