Concarneau

Day off! And it was brilliant. Admittedly ended up washing up all of my half of the dishes from last night, and taking our many rubbish bags and bottles down to recycling as I had got up early...but oh well, at least it was my choice to do it!

This is Jen and I at Concarneau, just outside of the medieval walled bit of the city. To get to Concarneau was a bit of a nightmare as we don't actually have cars, so have to go everywhere by bicycle. The six kilometre ride would have been alright apart from the fact the entirety of the journey was uphill bar the hill of death. This hill of death was downhill, and wow was it downhill! On bikes that have rather dodgy brakes was definitely interesting and more than appealed to my daredevil side, even if the many other hills uphill did not appeal to my unfit twenty-one year old side that has not been on a bike for over seven years! However, Concarneau was beautiful, and well worth a visit...will definitely have to go again at some point. Ice-cream was eaten (Salidoo et caramel beurre salé) Breton beers were drunk, moules-frites were eaten, and a new town was discovered. Very good day had by all, and you know what? That journey back was amazing, downhill all the way bar the hill of death that we pushed the bicycles up rather than riding up!

There is neither happiness nor unhappiness in this world; there is only the comparison of one state with another. Only a man who has felt ultimate despair is capable of feeling ultimate bliss. It is necessary to have wished for death in order to know how good it is to live.....the sum of all human wisdom will be contained in these two words: Wait and Hope.
