Lathyrus Odoratus

Butterfly orchid

This afternoon the spaniel and I took Mrs L to see the Military orchids that we found yesterday. Today we also came across this solitary Greater Butterfly orchid as well as some very tall Fly orchids, several White helleborine and a solitary Broad-leaved helleborine.

The morning spaniel walk turned into an adventure. Just a hundred yards from the end of what had a been a two hour walk our path was completely blocked by an enormous black bull lying in front of the gate. There was nothing we could do but re-trace our steps and try to go round a different way where, again, we found the gateway blocked by some very feisty cattle. Eventually our two hour walk became just over four hours (despite this the little rascal still wanted his afternoon walk).
