Jellyfish and Cocktails

Our last full day near our beach and we had remembered to order croissants and pains raisins for breakfast so that was the first order of business with 2 cafetières of coffee. The plan was to go down to the beach and get L’s 20 mins of sun, go for a swim then visit the Casino for some shopping. The beach went well and we both immersed ourselves in the Atlantic which was pretty cool but extremely refreshing. Not many people were swimming though a lot were paddling. We noticed a couple of small Jellyfish washed up on the beach by the receding tide but on our way back to our stuff we stumbled on this monster!! I think we might have thought twice about swimming had we seen it on the way to the sea but we escaped without any encounters - but this has to be the largest Jellyfish I have ever seen - a good 2 feet across! It was apparently a Lions Mane Jellyfish - one of the largest known types - the largest recorded at 7 feet across. Unfortunately when we got to the supermarket I remembered the French are prone to taking long lunches so we went back the campsite.

Anyway we had a relaxing afternoon before gathering with our friends from Leeds and a Scottish couple who arrived last night for Aperol Spritzers before eating at the same restaurant with.a view of the beach as we are last night. I had Filet de Maigre - don’t ask me what the fish was as the French literally means Filet of Thin. It wasn’t very thin but it was delicious. Extra of our drinks party at the campsite.
