Sandaig Bay, Knoydart

The holiday fun in the sun continues. Today Mr hazelh and I walked to Sandaig Bay (blipped). Here we lay on the sand, read (me), and learnt some more Gaelic (Mr hazelh).

When we returned to base we decided that the only way to deal with the heat was to take a dip in the bay (extra). Goodness, the water is cold!

Not long after our swim it was time for supper and more convivial chat with Americans Matt and Lauren, and Deborah and Adam (who, like us, first met at university in 1982). We are all enjoying one another's company very much.

Mr hazelh and I spent  much of the day discussing the adjective 'remote'. This is mainly because we don't feel terribly 'away from it all' here.  We have decided that 'remoteness' comprises two key concepts: (1) low accessibility and (2) isolation. Here we have the former in that we are a 40 minute boat ride from the nearest town, but not the latter because there is much habitation within view, and you can hear boats passing much of the time that you are out and about.

Tomorrow Andrew is taking us all by boat in Gripper II to drop us off for hill walks. The American family and Annie the dog will take the easy route to Inverie; the rest of us plan to come over the hills. I am very excited about this expedition. Here's hoping that my arthritic knees and krankle will cope with the climb and descent.

Exercise today: walking (15,263 steps).
