White Throated Gerygone

White Throated Gerygone

If you've never heard of this stunning little bird, you are not alone. I didn't even know they existed. It's a bit of an acrobat as you can see. Confession time. I didn't ID this bird from this image. I got a clearer, but much less dramatic image, which helped with the ID.

We went into Horsham today - it's raining and so we decided to visit the gym and do a rowing workout. That being accomplished we had a late lunch to celebrate the Rower's birthday, and drove back toward our cabin in the Grampians. With fading light, we stopped off at a popular picnic spot called Green Lake. A few years ago we had a devastating 10-year drought, and this lake was dry for much of them. When the drought broke and the lake re-filled it made local headlines.

We driven past it times without number on very single trip between Adelaide and Melbourne. The bird life was quite astounding with a lot of water birds, a lone raptor of some sort circling over head, and dozen of little birds doing wheelies in the trees, catching bugs.

This is another new one for BlipBigYear; white throated gerygone (Gerygone olivacea). Woohoo.

Internet access is still limited, so thank you so much for all the comments and stars, which put the blood red sundews into the spotlight yesterday.
