Busy bees

I thought they were just thirsty and struggling to get at the water among the pebbles because the pond level has dropped so much this week so I topped up the 'beach' with day-old mains water (need to wait another day or two before using it for the pond). 

But still they swarmed by the small boulder. A nest at water's edge? Surely not.
