Villa Monastero

The weather forecast can be very misleading, especially when seen from a distance. Instead of the bleak weather in the forecast we had brilliant sunshine and about 25 degrees,

Ignoring the forecast we took a fery over to Varenna to visit the garden at Villa Monastero. It definitely did not disappoint, looking as good, or even better than ever, despite all the hail storms.

We had a light lunch at the Villa before returning over to Lenno. I don't think I have ever seen the ferries so busy at this time if year. When we stopped at Bellagio there was a massive queue, and not everyone was able to board, we left quite a few people behind. The next ferry was not for almost two hours.

Part of the problem is certainly due to the mid lake ferry service not operating. Some of the ships are operating a shuttle service around the area where the road and rail was interrupted by an avalanche just over a week ago. Despite this inconvenience I think there are more tourists around than is normal at this time of year.
