Falkland memorial

This afternoon we had a lovely meet up with our old friends D and L in the delightful village of Falkland not far from where we live and where L’s grandparents had their house. After lunch the ladies explored one of the gift shops while D and I put the world to right  and had lovely conversations with some of the locals. We learned a bit about some of the houses built in the 1600s and about the use of falconry a few centuries ago.

As we sat on one of the wooden benches beside this splendid war memorial we debated about the word Dziekuje written at the bottom . We reckoned it was possibly Polish so the phone had to come out and Google was consulted - it translated as Thank you.

I don’t think I have seen that on a war memorial before but a lot of Polish troops did come to Fife during WW2 as well as other parts of Scotland.

The old cart was a nice addition to this peaceful spot in the village which is normally quite busy with visitors to Falkland Palace where the Scottish Kings were frequently resident and which was one of the favourite places of Mary Queen of Scots.
