Not that desperate

I needed to go but I wasn't as desperate as the signs pointing the way to the ladies and gents toilets in the Baie de Somme services centre on the A16 autoroute suggest. A good example of quirky French humour. The A16 is a toll road that runs from Calais past Rouen and then connects to the A28 that carries on to Le Mans. The extra photo was taken at another splendid services centre not far beyond Rouen where we stopped for petrol, an ice cream and coffee. My car is the humble red Vauxhall Astra. My companions are in the Lotus Elise and Ferrari Spider. The guys working on the Triumph were nothing to do with us. They were trying to mend the car's throttle cable that had snapped just as they came off the motorway. Our journey was happily trouble-free. We've returned to where we stayed last year deep in the Sarthe countryside. As there are six of us, our lovely host, Anita, has put us in the larger of her two gites. After settling in, four of us went to the local Super-U to get bread, cheese, salad and beer for a simple but most welcome evening supper after a long day on the road.
