James Watt, Artist

By JamesWatt

Back to the future

Old technology and new.

This image - from 1952 - captures a moment, a very young artist, reflecting the times.

Not a time of iPhones and iPads and instant, digital photography.

And yet, more than 60 years after that moment was held, we're taken back to those times because a digitised image of it was tweeted and saved, and then this shot of it was taken on another digital device.

Some of the young people coming to the exhibition will be photographing the Clyde and Greenock and the Beacon on their phones and cameras. Who knows who'll be looking at those captured moments in 60 years time, in 2073...

Some of the pupils will be creating new photographic portraits of James Watt. It'll be interesting to see how techniques have changed and how those new photographs reflect the artist and the times.

And they'll be blipped here, particular moments on particular days.

What a record of the Clyde and the decades James Watt has created. What an opportunity Blipfoto offers to share moments.

Old technology and new.
