America's Cup

I was fascinated to see the America's Cup yacht Stars & Stripes for sale at a downtown consignment shop. In checking Wikipedia, I found out that its skipper Dennis Conner was born in San Diego and was based at the San Diego Yacht Club for much of his sailing career. He triumphed in three America's Cups, 1980 (representing the New York Yacht Club), 1987 & 1988, but is more famous for being the first defender to lose in the Cup's 132-year history during his 1983 defense.
