St Vigeans Pictish Stone Museum

The museum is located near Arbroath and at long last we were able to visit. Visiting days and hours are quite restricted.

For us, the museum was well a worth and we also purchased the two volume guide covering 780 A4 pages. For us this is a superbly detailed and illustrated guide at a member’s cost of £20.

The weather had been quite wet, and yet it showed signs of improving.

Our next stop is Stonehaven where we could enjoy superb fish suppers on the sea wall followed by fabulous ice cream.

Pat had arranged to collect 2 x 1litre tubs of Ardbeg Whisky and treacle ice cream from an emporium on Evan Street.

Before heading back we had to sample ice cream. Non alcoholic variety.

The drive home via Aberlemno was in brilliant sunshine. See extra. The Pictish Stones have been unboxed, however, great care is required as they are located at the side of reasonably road. Luckily there is a 20 mph speed limit.

Pat spent quite some time examining the stone carving techniques of the Picts which she can apply to her own stone carving.
