John McKenna memorial, Tarmon

John McKenna is required listening for any aspiring traditional Irish flute player. Born in the late 1800s, into a mining area rich in traditional music, in particular flute playing. He emigrated to America in 1904. There he recorded the music he had brought from Leitrim. The festival at the weekend is one of the activities of the music society set up in 1978 to remember him. We had another lovely day of playing tunes and chat, in beautiful weather!!
