Roly-Poly

When I looked up the names for this little louse I discovered it is called all sorts of lovely things like common pill-bug, potato bug, woodlouse, roly-poly, doodle bug, or carpenter.  We have a lot of them here creeping and hiding wherever you care to look for them. I decided to try and get a Tiny Tuesday photograph of one. They are about 1cm - 1.2 cm long and can move very fast and disappear within seconds into crevices and under wood. The bug's eyes are not evident with our naked eye so seeing them on the screen was great fun!  It's soft body is protected by a gorgeous shell, hence its fancy name Armadillidium vulgare.

Thanks for hosting Jenny.

Over on the hills seen from the patio, the big bake off is starting. Within just a few days of intense heat, the green is rapidly fading to biscuit brown. Walking is really only advisable in the early morning and late afternoon. But I had enough activity and exercise clearing and pruning dead twigs and branches today and we're enjoying an early evening relaxing trying to catch a breeze.
