A fly has penetrated the very centre of the Woodland Garden where this light-deprived rose has fought its way up.

Emmeline - Small-Town Girl (2023)
Hot Chocolate's song Emma, yesterday's LOTD, was about a character called Emmeline who committed suicide when she realised her dreams of being a movie star were not going to be realised. This fate is unlikely to be that of this Emmeline, a "West Yorkshire-born, London-based artist. With a poet/playwright father and a radio dramatist mother, Emmeline has been surrounded by storytelling, art and culture her whole life. She trained with the Royal Exchange in Manchester and the National Youth Theatre in London before joining the spoken word collective Young Identity in 2017. The last year has been something of a whirlwind year for the 22 year old, who after plucking up the courage to ask for feedback on some demos from producer Fraser T Smith (Dave, Adele, Stormzy) at a gig, then went on to work with him on her debut EP, Satellite Navigation System, and also complete her English masters in Creative Writing from Oxford University." (Record Of The Day).
I heard this track and an interview with Emmeline, a slam poet, singer and actress on Cerys Matthew's show at the weekend. Emmeline won the 2017 SLAMbassadors national youth poetry slam for 13-18-year-olds. To her credit none of the potted biographies I have read about her online mention that her poet/playwright father is the Poet Laureate Simon Armitage.
