Now we know why.

Some months ago when we booked this mini break we had planned to stay on Friday night too. But this very large hotel was fully booked for that night.

The large gardens behind the hotel back on to York Racecourse and tomorrow is the first day of the Summer race meeting.

So after our reunion lunch at the University tomorrow with our old friends who were all administrators at north of England universities we shall be off on the road back to Arnside for a good rest.
