Dunnator Castle

As the home of the Earl Marischal of Scotland this castle was visited by William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots, the Marquis of Montrose and the future King CharlesII. However its most famous honour was in holding out for eight months of siege by Oliver Cromwell and keeping safe the Crown Jewels and The Honours of Scotland. We chose to visit from the outside only today as I did not fancy climbing up and down the two hundred steps which are the approach to the castle.
