J. L. Runebergs Home Museum

We did a trip to Porvoo today. First we dropped Emma to Pasila, then we continued to Porvoo. To be honest, it was too hot for a trip like this! But one destination of our trip was seaside in Emäsalo island, and weather was much more tolerable there.

We visited J. L. Runebergs Home Museum, and that was the most charming place! It is the original house of Finland’s national poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg (1804–1877) and his wife Fredrika (1807–1879). This museum was opened for public only couple of years after they died, and it is the oldest home museum in Finland. The museum’s unique atmosphere comes from the Runeberg family’s furniture, artworks, wallpapers, tableware and old houseplants, many of which have been grown from cuttings from Fredrika’s plants.

Then we went to the old town and had a coffee on the outdoor terrace of the restaurant Zum Beispiel.

In Emäsalo island we sat by the seaside and had picnic.
