High light steps

Harwich has two sets of now disused lighthouses which were built in the 1800s to guide ships into the harbour. The lower light would be lined up with the higher one and give a bearing for the ships to enter harbour. The older pair were built in 1818 to replace some old wooden lights . The course of the channel into the harbour gradually changed over the years and cast iron replacements were commissioned in 1863. These have been preserved and give us all plenty of photo opportunities . There will be more lighthouse shots along the way!
