This is the Roman Amphitheatre at Arles on the Rhône in South West France. It was built before and was a blueprint for the Coliseum in Rome according to our Guide!

It’s amazingly complete and was rescued from total destruction about 150 ago when the Victorian equivalents realised what a historic gem this was and formed a preservation society.
