They had an open garden afternoon at Packington Hall, the last time I was here the roof was well alight and I was driving the first fire appliance to arrive. At the time there was scaffolding up, I went up to those big windows in the middle left and woke up the Earl and his wife who came out of the window and down the ladder.The roof was badly damaged but was repaired. We were invited to the topping out when it was repaired, I missed it as I was on holiday.The year of the fire was 1979.
