Handsome devil

Campbell and dieseldaisy's youngest son set off like Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn to spend the afternoon fishing from the end of the pier.

Not for one second did we expect them to come back with any fish but they returned with what one of our island's fisherman told them were two grey gurnard. They were grinning from ear to ear (the boys, not the fish).

This one wasn't very big but the other one was about the size of a mouse. Campbell managed to nab this one, as it had been caught with his rod but I think it was mainly because Dieseldaisy didn't fancy the idea of gutting and cooking such an attractive critter.

Luckily for Campbell his Dad was quite happy to show him how to gut it and bake it slowly in some garlic butter and serve up with some fresh baked bread. In return Campbell let his Dad taste a little bit of his fish, which was by this point about the size of a sardine.

Tomorrow the boys are heading out once more to catch their tea.
