The landing, with a cheap and cheerful Irish airline direct from Edinburgh, was, fortunately, much smoother than this graphic depicts! We left an increasingly warm and sunny Edinburgh and flew 2.5 hours south east to land here in heavy rain and a chilly 12 degrees! This destination is just beyond the former Iron Curtain's border with Austria. The country is The Slovak Republic and therefore the arrivals sign greets us in Slovak. The Border Police where less friendly and I was reprimanded for taking a photography in what I subsequently discovered was a no photo zone! We missed the bus and due to the driving rain. We took a taxi to the train from Bratislavas's main station to Wien Hauptbahnhof. We made our way to the hotel near Schonnbrun Palace and began to explore the delights of this iconic architectural gem.
