Here come the girls

We have five Hyline hens, all now over two years old.

When we go to collect the eggs (still about three a day) they rush towards us for their treat of corn and then sultanas. Our grandsons love helping to collect the eggs but are too young, yet, to be confident at hand feeding, although they show no fear being around the hens.

We named our first three Rum, Eigg and Muck. Muck soon got a new name - McQueen - as she proved to be very good at getting over fences. When she disappeared we got three more of the same breed and called them Canna, Jura and Islay. The hens feeding from my hand here are Rum (dark), Islay (pale) and Jura.
