Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2023 Monday — Dinner

We were out for dinner with our daughter Deidre (see photo; pronounced dee-dra ) and our friend Dorothy at Rodrigo’s Mexican Restaurant. We were exiting when I captured this photo. We had thoroughly enjoyed our time together. We always try to have dinner with Dorothy when we are in Southern California. She has been widowed for 4 1/2 years and recently one of her two dogs died unexpectedly (the vet thinks the cause was possibly from a bee sting).

Earlier this afternoon we had a meeting with Mr. Fun’s general physician. He’s recently had lab tests and has now been told by his prostate doctor the good news that his prostate cancer has not returned. But he currently is having voice problems and can’t seem to get rid of the gravelly voice. It scares me because that was my mom’s problem years ago and it was the beginning of the end for her when it was discovered that she had lung cancer and it had grown into her vocal cords. I don’t want to be jumping to conclusions, but his issue is frightening.

Mr. Fun’s health has suffered severely since the treatments for prostate cancer. The 18 months of Lupron treatments and 28 radiation treatments have caused side-effects. He has a propensity to weight gain; the Lupron has accentuated that. He is now 100+ pounds overweight and today his doctor said Mr. Fun has gained 20 pounds since his last visit, which I think was in March. I’ve been telling Mr. Fun’s doctors since they told him he had prostate cancer 3+ years ago that he needs to lose weight. Well today the doctor finally told him he needs to lose weight. Another side-effect, Mr. Fun knows where every public restroom is on the route from Corona to Cayucos. Needing to “go” is a constant issue. His ankles are huge swollen; he sleeps a lot, but he has sleep apnea so the doctor says that is affecting weight gain, memory loss, and many other things because his sleep is not good. He has no energy; and lethargy is real. I tell him more than I should that I’m going to be a widow if he doesn’t address his weight problem. What a mess.

Today with the assistance of the nurse, we were able to make an appointment for tomorrow with a nose & throat physician so Mr. Fun’s voice problem can hopefully be solved.

That was our Monday.
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
