Venice day 2

Started the day with one of the wonderful breakfasts at our little hotel.  At 8am it was already very hot and with humidity at 87% it was very sticky!  We walked across the city to the Accademia Bridge from where this iconic view can be seen - I'm sure many will have a jigsaw with this image.  We then walked through the narrow alleyways to the Basilica of Santa Maria Delia Salute - shrouded in scaffolding at the moment. Then went around the promontory, and feeling uncomfortably hot stopped for coffee and water at a small cafe.  The plan had been to visit the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, but we forgot to check in advance and it wasn't open today.  Never mind - time to do that later.  Instead we went to the marvellous Gallerie dell'Accademia and spent a few hours looking at stunning paintings and icons from different centuries. It had wonderful air con too!  I also bought a book called Venice is a Fish which looks quite entertaining.  Working our way back towards the hotel we came across a square I remembered having a nice cafe, so we stopped there for lunch, and Spritz of course!  We then meandered homewards and came across the Frari Church so another stop to marvel at this wonderful building.  A few more photos from the day in extras.  We went out late for dinner and a lot of the restaurants around here have changed.  We went to one which used to be cheap and cheerful but is now more upmarket. Lots of friendly banter with the waiters though and a fun evening.  I had a lovely sea bass dish, a speciality of the restaurant, and Fin had a mixed fish platter of squid, prawns,, sea bass and monkfish which looked wonderful too.  Having done a lot of steps today we also allowed ourselves a small but beautifully made Tiramisu to finish.  Another good day.  Only problem now is that our air con isn't working so we are boiling in our room - hopefully it can be sorted tomorrow as it is set to get much hotter.
