Castle Carr Remains

During another rather long walk across Midgley moor towards Wainstalls. We came across the two reservoirs in Castle Carr grounds. Although the grounds are only open to the public on certain days in the year, we managed to follow sheep tracks and got to the castle ruins.
It was a bit of a ramble, but well worth it in the end.
The castle was demolished in 1961, I'm not sure why this bit of it was left.
When the grounds are open to the public, there is also a fountain, which is said to be one of, if not the highest in the country.
Out for 7 hrs today, but we stopped on the edge of the moor, for a ham salad tea- cake.
( bought from Old Town Post Office, well worth £1.40 )
