Marshmallow

Three more days of workshop commenced today, this one on environmental and social safeguards in our projects, and how to ensure all stakeholders are consulted throughout, with all grievances addressed comprehensively. These are critical concepts to revisit regularly.

The first exercise was initially perplexing. Each table received dry spaghetti, sellotape, string, and a marshmallow, which we were under strict instruction not to eat. Many may be familiar with this team-building task but for me it was new. The idea was to utilise teamwork skills to construct a free-standing structure with the materials provided, with the tallest as the winner. My group’s collapsed unbalanced by the late addition of the marshmallow, in a demonstration of flawed group decision-making. The winning entry is pictured.
