May finally out...just as May goes out!

At the nature reserve today I finally found Hawthorn - or 'May-flower' in most country areas - coming into flower. Thank goodness it made it just before the month of May ends - a very good illustration of just how late many natural events are still running this year. The Hawthorn flower, supposedly blooming to mark May Day (in normal years) is strongly associated with sex and fertility, so I really worry about what's going to happen this year...on second thoughts, perhaps not so bad for the countryside if the birth-rate drops.
