Hobbs's Run

Seemed Like a Good Idea

My cousin Steve a.k.a. "the koala man" has come to live in Katoomba and is learning to find his way about.  A few minutes walk from his home is the entrance to the western stage of the old Prince Henry walk. The route follows the top of the northern Jamison Valley escarpment from just above the Katoomba Falls to Echo Point. The track has been under urgently needed renovation for the past year and has recently re-opened. It is a whole lot safer now, in many ways, but perhaps it has become a fraction TOO civilised. Some of the adventure has gone missing with the upgrades, I think.

In any event, extra two is a look back toward the escarpment in question. The trail itself faithfully follows the edge of the cliff just above the rock face that you can see. Extra one shows Mt Solitary, slap bang in the centre of Jamison Valley, constantly visible along the way.

The whole excursion seemed like a good idea at the outset but the polar winds from the south west, roared across the valley, threatening to blow us off our feet at times. We are in the dead of winter here. The wind chill factor temperature (according to my phone) was around 0 degrees but right here, exposed as we were, the true reading must have been something like -2 or -3. Brrr.
