Golden thistle

Today it has been slightly cooler because of some welcome cloud cover but rather humid. It makes for lovely walking, and today I noticed how spectacular the wild thistles are, just full of bright yellow blooms. I have blipped this one so it is seen in its full natural mountain environment flourishing on the side of the trail.

This wild flower is known as the golden thistle, or Spanish oyster thistle (Scolymus hispanicus) and is native to southern and western Europe, including northwestern France. It grows to 80cm tall, with sharp spiny stems and leaves. The bright yellow flowers are about 2-3cm in diameter, for Wild Flower Week with thanks to Miranda.

It's been a productive day for fig harvesting, and I guess we've had at least 8 kilos from one tree so far. There's a lot of slicing and laying out on trays to happen so these can be dried. Lovely job!

Happy weekend everyone.
