World egg throwing championships

Today I went with the family to an archetypal village festival, which had all the usual vintage cars, lorries, and tractors, singing on the stage, traction and standing engines, crafts, and refreshments and a dog show. The highlight though was the world egg throwing championships. Granddaughter attempted to hit a willing volunteer with raw eggs. In the afternoon there was egg roulette. This consisted of six eggs, five hard-boiled and each pair of volunteers had to smash an egg over their own head until the raw egg was found! The egg catching competition followed with catching partners standing initially at a distance of ten metres. Those who did not break the egg retreated to twenty metres and so on. There was also a line of egg trebuchets, which slung eggs over a distance with competitors attempting to catch them. It was all quite mad, great fun and very English!
