The Next Chapter!

Sail Away!

We had a fab evening last night…an hour on shore amongst the throngs of young folk on the waterside before heading back to the ship to find a spot to watch the fireworks. Not knowing exactly where they were going to be seen we plumped for a spot on the walkway more or less just above our cabin and hit very lucky as we had a fabulous view. Lasers, drones and fireworks made up the show which lasted for at least fifteen minutes if not longer…it ranks as one of the best displays I’ve ever seen…and certainly the only one I’ve got photos of! I’m quite pleased with the results considering my camera was balanced on the ships railings whilst doing long exposures. As it was such a lovely evening we stayed out on deck until sail away at about 12.45am this morning…my main blip.

We woke this morning in Warnemunde, the port for Rostock in Germany. The weather was glorious, although a little too hot at 27c by 11am. We disembarked after breakfast for a mooch aboot on our own…it was so warm and there was little shade anywhere though that L soon became very hot and crotchety, not a great combination so after a couple of hours we headed back on board where she slept for a couple of hours! I had a short nap then read for a while before the mother of all electric storms hit…the crew were hastily summoned by tannoy to the moorings as it was so wild; outside decks were evacuated and closed and the gangway was also closed. The storm didn’t last long but this afternoon has remained cloudy. We don’t sail until late evening again and I think the sun should return by early evening with luck.

Extra 1:  a postcard of Warnemunde, a very pretty little town…from top left the canal in the centre lined with boats with the ship docked just beyond; beach chairs invented here in 1882; the lighthouse (dating from 1897] and teapot, a round building with a unique roof built in 1968; the West Pier with its green lighthouse which runs more than 500 meters into the Baltic Sea.
Extra 3: fireworks, drones and lasers from last nights display.
Extra 2: the view from the cabin window at the height of the storm!

Thanks to Carolina for hosting Mono Monday this month with some interesting themes.
