Don't feed the pigeons

At the Zenkoji Temple near the gate, I found this sign asking you not to feed the pigeons. The reason is mentioned only in Japanese: the cultural properties will be ruined by their droppings. 

Just the other day, one of the high school students I teach asked what the verb 'feed' means. I want to show her this sign, which is another reason why I captured this.
