Final Resting Place

We drove to Instow which is further up the river Taw towards the sea. It is a lovely  place with views across to Appledore. It is the up and coming place to live apparently. Everything is perfect. In extra is a perfect Moggie outside the perfect house with a perfect sea view. We walked back along the Tarka trail and then into the RSPB nature reserve and back to Instow. Just here the river is a bit bleaker but great for the call of the curlew and the oystercatchers. Swallows and martins are everywhere. There are still the remains of a coal powered power station here, and the start of a development. A quay and infrastructure remain, which facilitated the delivery of coal. It is also a place where ships die, but still look grand and dignified, and provide a big canvas for artists.
There was a choice of three fine pubs and a restaurant on the sea/river front, as well as a ferry to Appledore. We chose the Instow Arms with its picturesque upstairs view. Dogs and people  were criss crossing the expanse  of sand and river bottom at low tide. Only Lowry could have captured it. I don’t know if he ever came to Devon. A bit too perfect perhaps.
