Home Fires

We have been re-watching this delightful English series about a group of women, members of the WI in a Cheshire village in 1940. It’s a really powerful evocation of how it must have felt when the war suddenly tore peoples’ lives apart and changed their world for ever.

Series 2 ends with multiple cliff hangers. Clearly a third series was planned, but in spite of public protests and even a petition, itv didn’t make it. One theory was that the series appealed to an older audience and that didn’t fit with the younger image itv wanted to present.
