Remains of the Day

Up and out to the South Bank Food Festival - hundreds of stalls with food from all over the world. This (the remains of lunch one) is Cepapcici (Say-bap-chee-chee) which was deliciously spicy. We only ate it after having sheltered under their stall during a sudden and ferocious downpour. Later there was curry with beer while watching a sheep show. Not the South Bank entertainment you might expect, but very amusing even despite the drizzle.

Off then to Imperial College to their Science Festival - which was a fantastic free day out with all manner of sciencey stuff being explained by the folk who do it. We learned a lot about bees and new science developments and the boys seemed very well entertained. I had a lesson in how French education is affecting CarbBoy when he kept asking me what colour he should use for different bits of the brain (he was colouring it in to win a balloon and some sweeties - though I later noticed that all the other parents were just asking for the treats for their kids without making them do the colouring). Every time I told him just to use whatever colour he wanted - which seemed to make him very confused. So, he now believes that frontal lobes are actually blue, and the side bits are red. The non-helpful man at the stall just looked puzzled and said it was mostly grey.

After all that science, we headed off for ice cream (salted caramel - yum) then home to get ready for dinner - a delicious spread of thai food. Lots of chat and nonsense with the assembled crowd (our friend and fellow blipper Ness, and a couple Sue knows from college) and then continued nonsense, with added management speak when just the hosts and me were left. Chris (host and lurker) is known for being an early to bed early to rise kind of guy. But turns out if you fill him full of fudge, he too can stay up till 3 am talking rubbish. And I still can't remember the initials of what type of person I am on his management categorisation thingy.
