inspiration all around us

By Marykathleen

Inspired by a garden designer.

This house, ‘The Corbels’, stands proudly above the village of Windermere, with a magnificent view of the mountains. It was built in 1898 for Thomas Mawson, now recognised as a genius and one of the most successful Edwardian landscape architects. Gardens he designed in the Lake District include Holehird, Brockhole and Blackwell. He also accepted commissions in Canada, USA and Europe, including the Peace Palace Gardens at The Hague.
Quite a humble home for such a genius.
