White Lilac Glory

This white lilac was already in our garden when we bought the house in '86. I used to be disappointed that it wasn't lilac coloured, but now love the purity of the white blossom, and the way it comes again, reliably, each spring.

Last lines of a poem by Waqas Naeem, a Pakistani poet:

"...and now truth breathes on, hanging at the gallows,
and courage is giving in
but when the lilacs bloom again
I can feel the scent, residing on my shoulders, in the air
and I know that somewhere in the gloomy mist,
on the horizon, hope has dawned in all its glory
and freedom is not far away."
